Funeral services for Charles Edward Bennett Sr., 69, were held January 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Cowan Funeral Home Chapel. Charles was born January 7, 1954, in Helena, Ark. Baptized in his early teen years, he had a relationship with the Lord. He prayed regularly to Jesus, studied the Bible, and loved to quote scriptures. He shared scriptures whenever and wherever the Lord led, including Huntington-Ingalls Shipbuilding, where he was employed for 39 years. He never met a stranger; he made new friends often. He was an unselfish giver-some might say to a fault. He died January 12, 2023. He is survived by his wife Elesha Denise Corbett Bennett of Moss Point; five sons Charles E. Bennett Jr. and Wesley C. Bennett of Helena, Ark., Isaac L. Bennett, Tylor J. Bennett and Elias C. J. Bennett of Seoul, Korea and Wallace (Valirie) Bennett of Little Rock, Ark.; four sisters Erma L. Bennett-McMiller of Jonesboro, Ark., Wilma J. Bennett of Little Rock, Ark., Rev. W. Mae Bennett-Versey of Helena, Ark., Kira Bennett of Kansas City, Kan. and bonus sibling Nicole “Nikki” Lamar of Blytheville, Ark.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, friends and more. He was preceded in death by his parents Elder Sam Jr. and James Ola Davis-Bennett; two sisters Ruthie M. Bennett-Williams of Poplar Grove, Ark. and Ruby L. Bennett of Charlotte, N.C. He’s now with the Lord and resting in their company. Interment was held in the Old Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery in the Barton community. Cowan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
