A private family graveside service for James “Birl” Bartlett, 94, longtime resident of Lucedale was held on May 9, 2020 at Carter Cemetery in Lucedale.
A World War II Navy veteran, he had many occupations throughout his life. He is described by his family as a wonderful father and family man, intelligent and witty. His hobbies included golfing, and he was a huge Alabama football fan. He was born Oct. 27, 1925 in Boaz, Ala. He died May 4, 2020.
He is survived by his wife Shirley R. (Landrum) Bartlett; son Rodger W. (Belma) Bartlett; daughter Johnna B. (Donald) Haynes; stepsons Martin (Christa) Bilbo, Heath (Mona) Bilbo and Joshua (Missy) Bilbo; grandchildren Robel (Lars) Mylroie, Rodger S. (Rebecca) Bartlett; John W. Bartlett, Rebecah (Dale) Dean, Jacob (Rebecca) Haynes, Robert B. J. Bartlett, Heather (Mohammed) Islam, Hayley Bartlett and Derrick Bartlett and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his former wife Mary H. Wozencraft Bartlett and son James Hugh Bartlett.
Officiating the services was Rev. Darlene Hicks.
Sigler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
