A graveside military funeral service will be held for Carlton Jackson, 82, of Lavonia, Ga., formerly of Mobile, Ala., on Sept. 18, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Finch Cemetery on Harmon Pope Road in Agricola. He was born July 16, 1939 in Mississippi. He attended Tanner Williams grade school in Alabama and is a graduate of the Class of 1960 at Agricola High School. He played football for the Agricola Warriors. In 1961, he moved to San Diego, Calif. to work in the steel industry. He joined the Air Force on Jan. 14, 1962 and went through boot camp in San Antonio, Tex., technical school for aircraft sheet metal repair in Amarillo, Tex., He served in France and Austin, Texas. He was severely injured in an accident in Austin and was honorably discharged in 1967. He worked in construction, sheet metal and the welding industry for various companies until his retirement. His greatest accomplishment was getting his pilot license for small engine aircraft in San Diego, Calif. He loved flying. He also enjoyed working on various types of automobiles and motorcycles. His joy of riding motorcycles was beyond words. He rode until he was 78 years old. He loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed. He will never be forgotten by those who knew and loved him. He died Sept. 10, 2021 in Athens, Ga. He is survived by his daughters Michelle Bunker of Lavonia, Ga. and Gelena Perry of Jasper, Ga. and son Michael (Tamra) Jackson of Lavonia, Ga.; grandchildren Cody (Alyssa Harness) Patterson of Lavonia, Ga., Shawn (Taylor Phillpot) Jackson of Lavonia, Ga. and his twin sister Jacklyn (Steven Carter) Jackson of Florence, S. C.; great-grandchildren Wadelynn Patterson, Travis Jackson and one expected, all of Lavonia, Ga.; his siblings Tommie Jackson, Cleve (Laura) Jackson Jr., Marshall Jackson, Reginold (Babette) Jackson, Edna Earl Wilson, Jane Finch, Jacqueline (Roger) Garbers, Ivan Lorain (Paul) Murrill, Audrey Mae (Earl) Casey and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Deloris Goggins Jackson; parents Cleve Jackson and Roetta Lanora (Finch) Jackson; brothers Henry Jackson and Jack Jackson; sister Rosalee Marie Jarman; brothers-in-law Lawerance B. Wilson and John W. Finch and sister-in-law Mary Beth Jackson. Sigler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
