Funeral services for Dr. William (Bill) Theodore Bounds Jr., 77, of Conway, Ark., will be held on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Woodland Heights Baptist Church in Conway.
A native of Lucedale, he graduated from Lucedale High School and then earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Business Administration at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. He served in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Mississippi.
He taught at the University of Southern Mississippi, Mississippi College and the University of Mississippi and retired from the University of Central Arkansas after 34 years. He was a member of Beta Sigma Pi and a lifetime member of Delta Sigma Pi.
He was an active member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church in Conway where he served as a deacon, worked in AWANA, sang in the choir, was a leader in Vacation Bible School, was the church photographer for new members and served on seven Foreign Missions Service Projects.
An active member of the Lion’s Club, he served as secretary and received the Lion of the Year and the Melvin Jones Fellow award for dedicated humanitarian services from Lion’s Club International. He died Oct. 15, 2020.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Jonnie; sister Meida (Mimi) Bounds Steele of Kirkwood, Mo. and his aunt, Alline Bounds Powell Garris of Leroy, Ala.
He was preceded in death by a son Joseph Theodore Bounds and parents W.T. and Meida Gilbert Bounds Sr.
Officiating the services will be Dr. Larry White.
