Tajiri Lazell Washington

      A celebration of life and funeral services for Tajiri Lazell Washington, 18, of Lucedale, were held July 13, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Lucedale Church of God in Christ.

       He was born Oct. 3, 2001 in Lucedale. He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership and guidance of the late Pastor Emmanuel Eaton and now under the leadership of Interim Pastor C.V. Taylor.

      He was a student at George County High School where he played football for the Rebels. He was a 2020 high honors graduate. He was currently enrolled at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College with plans to move on to University of Southern Mississippi to study business and law. He died July 6 in Lucedale.

     He will be forever loved and cherished  by his parents LaKesha Washington and Derek (Jackie) Hilton; brother Trajan Washington; sister Ny’Jah Milton; grandfathers John Phillips and James Charles (Carlean) Truvillion; his favorite Aunt Bertha Dortch; godmother Brenda Lewis; aunts Felecia (Steve) Green, Catina Washington, Shanavia Hilton, Sharon Phillips-Perine; uncles Curry Washington, Joe Washington, Jimmy Scott, Armonzo Hilton, Jamerson Truvillion; a special uncle Stacy (Cornella) Washington; special cousins Jasmine Williams, Morgan Williams, Cheyenne (Hector) Lopez, Haley (Justin) Garner, Sade’ Washington, Cornelius “King” Washington and L.B. Bradley; five great uncles; five great aunts; special friends McKinley Jackson, Jaylen Scott, Kaya Ludgood, Kameron Jones, Jha’Quon Watts, George Johnson, M. J. Daniels, Laura Fletcher Brodnacks; support team Beverly McDoyell, Angie Ludgood, Mandy Reeves, Wendie Scott, Mwaka Jack, Stephanie Jones, Kimora Jones, Jim Watts, Roderick Ward, Jimmy Earl McDowell and a host of cousins, family members and friends who loved him.

      He was preceded in death by his grandmothers Gloria Washington and Annie Bell Hilton; his great-grandfather and great-grandmothers Toby “Curry” Marie and Lelia Washington; uncles Darryl Hilton, Ronald Phillips and William “Russ” Washington; great uncle George Washington and great aunt Dora “Tink” Singleton.

       Officiating at the services were Superintendent Elder Pastor Larry Burney and Pastor Terry Fairley. Interment was in New Providence Cemetery in Leakesville.

       Active pallbearers were Rebel football players M. J. Daniels, Malik Knight, Jahiem Nix, Jeremiah Anderson, Mykal McLeod, Anthony Landon, Caden Keys and Nick McCann. Honorary pallbearers were Trajan Washington, Clarence Washington, Joe Washington, Jimmy Washington, Tyrone Washington, Kaleb Jack, Donte Galloway, Jimmy Scott, Jamison Truvillion and Armonzo Hilton.

       Flower bearers were family members.

       Cowan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
