Herman Rudolph “Rudy” Welford

Funeral services for Herman Rudolph “Rudy” Welford, 88, of Lucedale were held on Oct. 16, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Rocky Creek Baptist Church.

He proudly served in the United States Navy as a First Class gunner’s mate from 1950-1954 and fought in the Korean War. He played lead guitar for the gospel group The Southernaires. He enjoyed playing for the shut-ins at the assisted living homes in George County for many years. He was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church. He was a loving father and Pawpaw who will be deeply missed. He died Oct. 13, 2020.

He is survived by daughter Faye (Mike) Courtney; granddaughters Meliah (Brandon) Bishop and Chasten (Josh) Hempstead; great-granddaughters Braylee and Makenna Bishop; sisters Sarah Hathcock and Carolyn Shanks, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Netha Lee Welford; parents James and Carrie Welford and brothers W.D. Welford, Jimmy Welford and Eldridge Welford.

Officiating the services was Dr. Paul Brashier. Interment was held in Rocky Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Eddie Fleming, Monty Mizell, Mike Welford, Ethan Welford, Mickey Weaver and Vince Carlisle.

Moments Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
