A private funeral service for the family of Mary Ellen Welford Rouse, 90, of Lucedale was held on Sept. 19, 2020 at George County Funeral Home. She was born on Oct. 29, 1929, Black Tuesday during the Great Depression of the United States and she witnessed many events during her lifetime. She worked for Drucilla for a number of years, Lucedale Sportswear for over 30 years and retired from Walmart after 20 years of service. She was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church. She died Sept. 12, 2020. She is survived by daughters Reba (Buddy) Shotts, Sandra (Delma) Holland and Mary Ann Walker; sonin-law William (Cindy) Burge; grandchildren Lisa (Mark) Cates, William Burge Jr., Charman (John) Brock, Joe (Cassie) Holland, Daniel (Renee) Holland, Sonja Holland Gibbs, Brian (Tracy) Holland, Kathrine Preston-Walker and Stephanie Walker and 17 greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years E.G. “Runt” Rouse Jr.; daughter June Rouse Burge; grandsons Richard Taylor Jr. and Eddie Burge; sons-in-law Richard Taylor, Michael Walker and Jerry Holland; her parents Elder A.D. “Pete” and Addie Rebecca Taylor Welford; sister Mildred Judson and brothers Glenn Welford and Auburn Welford. Interment was held in Magnolia Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Holland, William Burge Jr., Daniel Holland, Christopher Holland, J.C. Holland and Johnathan Brock. Honorary pallbearers were Brian Holland, Justin Burge, Michael Cates, Jacob Mullins and PFC David J. Gibbs (Active Duty-Army). George County Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
