Fourth of July festivities to honor hometown heros

Members of Lucedale’s National Guard Company B of the 150th Brigade  Engineer Battalion will be saluted at Thursday’s traditional  July 4 celebration in the Marketplace parking lot.

Mayor Darwin Nelson announced Friday that the City of Lucedale and all area residents will honor the soldiers who have recently returned from a year’s active  deployment  to Kuwait.

Recognition of the Guard Unit will be made on the program at 8 p.m.

The local National Guard Unit was deployed in the spring of 2018 on the third deployment to the Middle East since 2004-05. The unit had gone on the first of the three  to Irag, and their second deployment was to Afghanistan.

In 2018 they went first to Ft. Bliss, Texas for additional training before leaving for Kuwait.

      Fireworks Show

At 9 p.m. the fireworks show will begin at the city soccer field. Lucedale Police Department and local law enforcers will sponsor  the  fireworks show through money raised by the departments.

The public is invited to attend the holiday event. Those attending are asked to bring lawn chairs for seating.
