The deadline to qualify as a candidate for the George County Tax Assessor / Collector special election was Friday, September 3, and four people met that deadline. Those throwing their hats into the ring to serve the last year of former tax assessor Vince Carlisle’s four-year term are Braden Byrd, Lena Jordan, Dylan Mears and Terry Redd Rogers. Jordan, who has worked in that office for the past four years, was sworn in as an Interim Tax Assessor in early May. The special election will be Tuesday, November 2. Carlisle, who was in his second term, resigned his office on April 30. Candidates qualified by completing the necessary qualification forms and obtaining 50 names of registered voters on a petition. The deadline for qualification and to have one’s name entered on the ballot was the close of business on Friday, September 3. The qualification papers were submitted to the Circuit Clerk’s office along with a fee of $100.
