For over half a century, Alderman at Large Louis Valentine has been in the Lucedale City Christmas Parade. This year during his 52nd ride Valentine is being honored as the 2022 Grand Marshal.
“I am truly honored to have the opportunity to serve as the Grand Marshal of the Lucedale Christmas Parade. This has always been an event that I hold close to my heart, and I have loved watching it grow over the years,” Valentine said.
Valentine has been a long-time resident of Lucedale, rearing four daughters, Leslie Valentine Holland, Stacy Valentine Malone, Ashley Valentine McArthur and Courtney Valentine Seib, in the community he cherishes. Valentine was married to his late wife Jackie Valentine, and has eight grandchildren growing up in the area.
His involvement in the community goes far beyond normal means. Valentine has been a member and leader of various community organizations over the years. Starting in 1989, Valentine has served on the Board of Alderman for 29 years, helping serve the community in a multitude of projects such as the Greenway project, School House renovations, helping establish the Farmer’s Market and the Veteran’s Memorial in the city park. Currently, he is over the Public Works Department.
Valentine is a Vietnam veteran who served as a Captain in the Army. During his time in the Army, Valentine was awarded the Bronze Star and is now a member of The American Legion. Prior to serving in the Army, Valentine graduated from Mississippi State University, first in his class, in 1966. He graduated with a Master’s in Business Administration, and in 1970 he opened Wigley and Culp.
Over the years, Valentine has also been a member of many other organizations. In his continuation of leadership through service to others, Valentine became a Master Mason and then went on to become a Shriner, which he is still currently serving.
In order to help George County increase prosperity, Valentine helped found the George County Economic Foundation, which helps bring business to the area.
Valentine has always strived to be a leader for his community and has found himself at the front of the organizations he serves. He is active in the Rotary Club, and has held office as the club’s president at one time. Valentine also served as the Jaycees Club President for a time.
In Valentine’s life, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and watching sports. Having all eight of his grandchildren play soccer, he has always been involved with the George Greene Soccer Association helping improve fields and facility conditions. In addition, the Mississippi State Alumnus enjoys cheering on the Bulldogs during every game, no matter the sport. Valentine is a member of the First Baptist Church of Lucedale.
Valentine’s strong sense of community and civic duty has helped him better serve his community and improve the City of Lucedale.
