A send-off party for Breanna Smoak, George County’s 2020 Distinguished Young Woman, will be held on Sunday afternoon, June 30 in Lucedale.
The party will be hosted by Lucedale Fine Arts Club honoring Breanna before she leaves for Meridian to participate in the state DYW program.
The send-off party will be held at Second Chance Ministries on Hwy. 63 bypass. Hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. The public is invited.
Breanna, daughter of Stephen and Gina Smoak, won the George County DYW title in a local program held Feb. 23 in Lucedale.
The state program will be held July 18-20 and will include categories for scholastic achievement, talent, self expression, physical fitness and judges’ interview.
Since she won the local DYW title, Breanna has represented George County at similar DYW programs held in Petal and Greene, Forrest and Mobile counties.
She also attended Mississippi’s DYW Winner’s Orientation where she learned information about the state program and met DYW winners from other counties in the state.
“I’ve already made several lifelong friendships and I’m excited to see all the girls again the week of state,” she said.
In other local activities, Breanna volunteered in the survivor games at Central Elementary School and helped students match definitions with vocabulary words and with math problems. She also visited several Central Elementary classrooms and talked about the characteristics of being their Best Self and what being a DYW has meant to her.
Meanwhile she is making preparations for the state program next month.
