Rebel football program shut down for 2 weeks

The George County Rebel football team received some bad news just as the JV team was starting to warm up for their Monday night game at Ocean Springs. Load up and return to George County. The schools had just received word that another Rebel football player had tested positive for COVID-19. This positive case put players within the football program at three cases, which the CDC and the Mississippi Department of Health identifies as an outbreak.

“Due to the number of positive cases for COVID-19 (staff and athletes) reported in our football program, the George County High School football team will be quarantined for the next two weeks,” said Superintendent Wade Whitney in a statement released on Tuesday.

The Rebels were forced to forfeit games against Terry (Oct. 24 -Homecoming) and Petal (Oct. 30).

Homecoming activities have been changed to take place Nov. 6, when the Rebels host Meridian for the final game of the season.
